いやしくも今年、設立50周年を迎えたMotown Records。数奇な符号ですね。
そのMotown Recordsと言えば基本、この『Hitsville USA The Motown Singles Collection 1959-1971』(1992)という4枚組CDのボックス・セットを持っていればだいたい何とかなると思い込んでいる節があります。
続編も持っていませんし、Jackson 5の単独盤も持っていなかったりします。
そんなJackson 5については4枚目に収録されたM1｢I Want You Back｣、M4｢ABC｣、M12｢I'll Be There｣とM18｢Never Say Goodbye｣に圧倒されてしまって満腹中枢がイカれたままです。
まさに神童ですね、Michael Jacksonが。歌唱力だとか躍動感を超えた天賦の才があるんじゃないでしょうか。
それはともかく、この4枚目だけでなく合計100曲以上、頭からケツまでヒット曲に次ぐヒット曲。きらびやかなモータウン・サウンドに目眩がします。
“The Sound Of Young America”、アフリカン・アメリカンたちの夢と希望が目一杯に詰まっています。何て素晴らしい音楽かと。
そうは言っても、徐々に明るみになって来ました未発表音源の数々がまだまだたんまりと眠っているようですので、この決定版の4枚組CDのボックス・セットでも足りないというのが本音だったりします。
